House in Tinos
This beautiful House on the Greek
island of Tinos in the Cyclades,
was restored by Zege Architects and
interior designer Marilyn Katsaris

HOSTEM - The One Room Hotel - JAMESPLUMB
From the moment you step through the stripped
wooden front door of HOSTEM at number
41- 43 Redchurch Street, London E2,
you breathe a different air and sense a shift in
sensibility. The stimuli are brought about by your
reaction to the decor and ambience in this unique
menswear store. Everything you look at is
interesting and begs investigation.
The interior was created by the design duo
JAMESPLUMB (see below).
The people who welcome you into this two
room space are friendly and effortlessly cool.
The fact that they know they are in a special place,
translates into positive energy.
Then there's the impressive roll call of designers
represented on the racks.
HOSTEM is altogether a good experience.
Together HOSTEM and JAMESPLUMB created
The One Room Hotel
At the same address but with a separate entrance, this
is an opportunity to live the JAMESPLUMB experience.
Apparently you have the feeling of being transported
into a Dickensian space and time.
I can well believe this, as a while ago I attended a
JAMESPLUMB installation at the Spazio Rossana Orlandi
in Milan. The ambience that JAMESPLUMB had created
at Orlandi's space was nostalgic and comforting in a
tattered, rusty way, yet contemporarily tinged with irony
and originality.

Cioccolati Italiani
It's my great fortune, that at about 250 meters from my apartment in Milan I
can stop by one of the 3 'Cioccolati Italiani' gelateria/bar/restaurants that exist
in Italy. On a summers evening I can treat my taste buds to one of the most
delicious ice-creams I have ever tasted. During the winter months when I need
to satisfy a desire for chocolate, a cup of their thick hot chocolate really does
the trick. I can also recommend their fresh and interesting salads or pasta dishes
at midday.
There are two 'Cioccolati Italiani' in Milan:
Via De Amicis, 25 and Via San Raffaele, 6 (near the Duomo)
And one in Gallipoli in Puglia:
Via Cavalieri di Rodi, 13

David Hurlbut's Harmony club

In 1999 David Hurlbut bought this building
which had originally housed The Harmony Club.
A Gentleman's club in Selma, Alabama,
overlooking the Alabama River.
He has turned the club into a home without
loosing the spirit or the poetic decadence
of the interior.

Sruli Recht
Born in Jerusalem, citizen of Australia, living in
Reykjavik, Sruli Recht is a designer,who doesn't
limit himself to one field of creativity.
