My home renovation - Plastbau roofing

The Plastbau panels are now laid ready for the
metal cages that will fit into the grooves and all
around the perimeter.
I'm amazed that we can walk on these polystyrene
panels without them snapping under foot.
Tomorrow is a holiday so I guess the metal cages
will be laid on thursday. Day by day we're getting
there.

Where there's tea there's hope

Love the sentiment!

A bit of rough and rustic

My home renovation - roof demolished

This evening I photographed the space
where the roof has now been totally
demolished and the walls are prepared
to receive the new lightweight roof in
Plastbau.

Here's an example of Plastbau before the cement is
poured over the polystyrene and metal rod structure:

Fucking Angry!

It makes me so angry to think of the things I
have to forgo in my new home because a
civil engineer said I needed to demolish my
roof terrace, when in actual fact the roof
would have stayed good for a couple more
centuries at least.

With this extra and totally unnecessary expense
I will not be able to have the jacuzzi I was
planning on, and I'll have to cut costs on the
finishings I wanted.

Never consult a civil engineer!

My home renovation - Never trust a Civil Engineer

demolishing the very solid roof terrace

These rods, that were installed to strengthen
my roof terrace, look pretty healthy to me.
Some have the thinest coating of rust after
more than 50 years buried in concrete.
They are 14mm thick and my builders are
having a hell of a time trying to demolish
the roof terrace. Whilst my neighbours have
to suffer the noise and vibrations.
So it appears I'm paying a fortune and have a
month added to my schedule to rip out a
roof that was perfectly good and sturdy.
All thanks to a civil engineer who deemed the
roof unsafe. I doubt a bomb would have
destroyed it.
I will never in my life consult one of those
nurds again, and never would I recommend
anyone to consult a civil engineer.
I now suspect they work on commission from
the roofing companies.

Wild flowers at Torre Uluzzo - Nardò - Puglia

Today as I picked my way along the overgrown
footpath that winds around the coast at
Torre Uluzzo - Nardò
I was careful not to tread on any of these
beautiful small wild flowers
